The Master in Economics (MEc) is designed to cultivate advanced expertise in economic theory, research, and policy analysis, preparing graduates to address complex economic challenges at national, regional, and global levels. The programme emphasises critical thinking, analytical rigour, and professional ethics while integrating practical applications with academic depth.

Entry Requirements

On Campus & Online
  • A Bachelor’s degree (Level 6, MQF) in related fields with a minimum CGPA of 2.75 as accepted by the HEP Senate; or
  • A Bachelor’s degree (Level 6, MQF) in related fields with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 and not meeting CGPA of 2.75 can be accepted, subject to the rigorous internal assessment (may include tests, interviews or portfolio); or
  • A Bachelor’s degree (Level 6, MQF) in related fields with a minimum CGPA of 2.00 and not meeting CGPA of 2.50 can be accepted, subject to a minimum of 5 years relevant working experience and rigorous internal assessment (may include tests, interviews or portfolio); or
  • A Bachelor’s degree (Level 6, MQF) in non-related fields with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 as accepted by the HEP Senate, subject to having relevant working experience and rigorous internal assessment (may include tests, interviews or portfolio); or
  • A Bachelor’s degree (Level 6, MQF) in non-related fields with a minimum CGPA of 2.00 and not meeting 2.5 as accepted by the HEP Senate, subject to a minimum of 5 years relevant working experience and rigorous internal assessment (may include tests, interviews or portfolio); or
  • A Bachelor’s degree (Level 6, MQF) in non-related fields with a minimum CGPA of 2.00 as accepted by the HEP Senate and without relevant working experience, subject to passing pre-requisite courses; or
  • Other qualifications equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree (Level 6, MQF) recognized by the Malaysian Government.

 

English Competency Requirement (International Student)

Candidates who wish to enter a program which medium of instruction is English language must pass the English Language Qualification (TOEFL: 60 / IELTS: 6.0) or MUET band 4, or equivalent to CEFR (Mid B2). Exemption will be granted subject to the University Senate’s approval based on situations.

Course Details

The applicant is required to complete a subject titled Research Methodology before commencing research work under the supervision of an academic staff member from the Postgraduate Studies Department.
